6×12.5 Antique Afshar Rug Runner

:: This striking rug is a unique fusion of tribal and urban design traditions, reflecting a Lori or Afshar origin with prominent Bakhtiari motifs and a central Kashan-inspired scene known as the “Throning of Nader Shah.” The rug features a coarse weave and high-quality wool with some cotton foundation, indicative of early 20th-century transitional craftsmanship. At its heart is an elaborate royal enthronement tableau, bordered by rows of stylized floral medallions in a symmetrical Bakhtiari layout. The rug’s hand-knotted artistry includes a Persian inscription reading The Enthronement of Nader Shah Afshar, emphasizing its historical narrative. Colors and shades include: Dark indigo blue, burgundy red, pistachio green, ivory, blush pink, saffron yellow, cobalt blue, rose, copper brown, and more. Condition notes: Areas of pile, knot heads and foundation. Tatter to sides and ends. Multiple holes throughout the carpet – perhaps 3 dozen approximately pencil eraser size to quarter sized, with a few areas of localized darning and a section on the edge approximately 1.5″ x 3″ needing repair / restoration. One end measures 12′ whereas the opposing measures 12’5″. This variation is within normal margins for hand knotted rugs of this type, age, and size. Recently professionally cleaned ready for in-home use! Many years of enjoyment to come with this hand knotted Persian Afshar rug runner made in Persia circa 1920’s vintage. Size measures 6’1″ x 12’5″.
