2×3 Antique Silk Persian Tabriz Rug Mat

:: Diminutive Antique Silk Tabriz rug mat. Rare type + rare size antique silk Tabriz ca. 1870 of the ‘Haji Jalili’ variety. Center medallion with open burgundy field. Some very light hints of green and soft jewel blue. A true gem with great knot density. The rug measures in excess of 400 knots per inch: without an immediate reference point for size, the intricacy of this rug lends to the appearance of a carpet in much large proportions. A very fine weave. There were never a great deal of these made: While the type itself is relatively rare, the most common size is approximately 4×6, and many of the smaller sizes were woven much less frequently and considerably more prone to damage or loss. Only a handful of this size, type and age ever surface, with only a few sold publicly in the last several decades only to be stowed away in private collections.
