2×2.5 Antique Peking Round Rug Mat

:: This round rug depicts a stylized dragon emerging through swirling bands that can be interpreted as either wind, clouds, or water, a common decorative theme in Chinese design. Above the dragon is a flowering tree and garden arrangement, while geometric and architectural elements create a sense of structure within the composition. The open field and minimal ornamentation place strong emphasis on the dragon’s curved form and its movement through the surrounding landscape. Colors and shades include: Charcoal, cobalt blue, beige, sapphire blue, black and more. Condition notes: Areas of pile and knot heads. Fully secured sides and ends. Faux fringe along the entire perimeter, applied in what appears to be a reversible manner. Woven as a single, circular rug (not a roundel cutout) as plain weave beneath fringe may be seen, making this a unique survivor in a scarce color and motif for type.
